What is Brightspace?

Brightspace serves as your online companion, a one-stop platform for managing your college courses. With this tool, you can easily access course materials like slides, lecture notes, syllabi, and links to virtual class sessions. But that’s not all – you’ll also use Brightspace to submit your assignments and engage in discussions with your instructor and fellow students. It’s where you’ll find your grades and valuable feedback from your instructor on how you’re doing in the course. In short, Brightspace is your virtual academic hub, making learning a breeze.Login in to Brightspace

The first step to using Brightspace is to log in. Go to www.hostos.cuny.edu:

1. Select Brightspace from the drop-down menu under “Login To”
   
2. Enter your CUNYfirst username and password (John.Doe##@login.cuny.edu)
3. Click Log in.

Once you’re logged in, you’ll be taken to your dashboard, where you’ll see a list of all your courses. Click on a course card to access it.

Troubleshooting

If you have trouble logging in, look for the Forgot Password or Help link on the login page. Clicking this will help you reset your password or solve other login issues. For additional or after-hours support, contact the Student Help Desk if you need assistance:

Getting Around in Brightspace

You can get to each of your courses by clicking on the card with your course name. Each course will be divided by your instructor into blocks of content (including slides, lecture notes, readings, and assignments) often referred to as modules. Each module will have content grouped that belongs together, for example, Module for Week 1 or Introduction Module.

You can navigate between the different parts of the course by clicking on a tab on the navigation bar. We’ll explore the features of most of these in the next few sections.

Viewing Course Content

Within each module you may find a variety of items to view and complete. To get started:

• Click on a Module name in the Table of Contents to access it.
• Click on items in each Module to view them. If you wish to return to a specific item, click on the Bookmark item at the upper right of your screen to save your place.
• As you go, Brightspace will note your progress in the bar which displays at the top of the content viewer.
• In some cases, your instructor may require you to view certain specific material before you can move on to assignments or complete a module.
  

Activity

• Log in to Brightspace using your CUNYfirst credentials. Once you’re logged in, click on one of your courses.
• Once you’re logged into a course, have a look around. What was difficult to find? What was easy to find?
